Gene Schell, commander of the local VFW (Post 5290), passed away in an accident early last Friday morning. We grieve with veterans and the community in this tremendous loss. He was a community leader, brave veteran, father, and had a laser focus on bettering the lives of veterans. See the link below for our public statement to East Metro Times following this tragic news. Join us in supporting the VFW to honor his memory and bring his plans to completion.
There will be a memorial on Thursday at 7:00pm at the VFW.
POW/MIA Recognition Day
Friday, September 16, 2016 marks National POW/MIA Recognition Day. It is on this day, together as a nation, we remember our lost veterans. Always remember their bravery and sacrifice. Their families will never forget or stop looking for them. Lost but not forgotten. There are close to 80000 people, since our first war, that remain unaccounted.
Consider supporting the League of Families, a national organization that investigates and locates remains to return to their families. In Conyers, we have the Walk of Heroes that works closely with families to locate lost veterans. Remember their sacrifice, All gave some, Some gave all.
Saturday, September 17 is celebrated by WE THE PEOPLE- Constitution Day! It commemorates the formation and signing of the US Constitution on September 17, 1787. This was signed by 39 brave men. We celebrate this day and the liberties it affords us by being citizens of the greatest country on the planet. .
