Dear fellow republicans
In our previous newsletter, we published an incorrect date for the public meeting on Wednesday. Below please find the corrected information.
There are additional public meetings this week that we have also added. We wanted to make sure that you were informed. These meetings will be held by the BOE to also discuss the FY17 Millage rate.
Lastly, we added some new events within the community and district.
Please click on the events for more information. We look forward to seeing you at some or all of them!
Millage Rate Discussion
As citizens it is critical that that we make use our voice in public meetings. That is the sole purpose for calling meetings wtih the public. As Republicans we believe deeply in a reduction of taxes, not an increase. We believe in being fiscally responsible with public funds. Further, we believe in citizens keeping elected officials accountable for his or her actions. One way we do that is by engaging in the process and voicing our concerns directly to our officials.
These upcoming meetings hosted by the Rockdale BOC and BOE will provide the opportunity to ask important questions related to the handling and management of tax revenues. Together, we may very well be able prevent a tax increase. Tell your friends and neighbors and bring them to these meetings. Some of these questions should include alteratives to raising taxes:
- 100K/year lobbyist, Is this indeed needed for Rockdale County, the smallest county in the state?
- $48k/y plus benefits position for the Chairman's Assistant. Does the chairman need an assistant or could this employee's time be better spent serving the county in another position?
- $90k/y + benefits. Chief of Staff. Does the smallest county in the state really need this nearly 6 figured position?
-Are there effeciency gains in human resources, or other departments that would reduce costs? Are there other areas of reduction across departments that can be used to balance the budget? Cutting expense is truly a brave decision.
These questions, and any others that you may have can be asked by the board at these meetings:
